Major Trends in Home Appliances Designs
The home appliance design industry has seen some major trends recently. After a long time of sameness, this industry is now undergoing an innovation and design renaissance, and the changes are just beginning.
Consumers have not only embraced these new solutions, but products such as Nest have shown the benefits of tapping into interconnectivity and intelligence that make passive home appliances more active as well as adaptable without major involvement of the homeowner.
Here are some categories in the home appliances industry that are currently undergoing design innovation:
Internet of Things (IoT)
Organisation and Task Support
In this post, however, we are only going to discuss the Internet of Things which is arguably the hottest topic when it comes to home appliances interconnectivity.
There’s a lot of innovation going on in the field of home appliances that are connected to the internet. The integration of the latest technology to support the internet of things, however, needs some clear advantages in order to be valid.
Here are some of the things to be considered:
1. Significantly enhance the function of the appliance itself. An ideal example would be to design a washing machine that knows what type of clothes are inside and appropriately sets the cycle automatically.
2. Enhance the appliance function as a part of a system in the household. That is for the device to be functionally integrated with other devices in the home. A perfect example would be to have a washer that automatically transfers the laundry to the dryer and does its job without any new entries by the user.
3. Improve the function of the device to better support the household owner’s life. A good example for this would be a fridge that knows when it’s summer and adjusts the temperatures and ice production, like some of the best large kitchen appliances of 2018.
These are just a few examples of where technology in home appliances is headed. The future is bright.
